The Sunday Letter, 23 September 2018
Happy Sunday Pixie friend,
I need to tell you of an important change in how this letter will be sent to you, starting next Sunday.
That important change is in the platform I use to send this letter to you. We've been sending The Sunday Letter using Zingry, but from next week this letter will move over to Substack.
The reason is because Substack allows us to turn The Sunday Letter into an open publication much more easily. It allows us to give you full access to the archives, which is currently a manual process. You can see the start of the Substack archive here.
Being able to make the past issues open is important for our model of open business.
Nothing will change in your experience. Instead, it gives you more options, so you can upgrade what you get in exchange. You can learn more about that here.
Exciting eh?
This week's reading includes some incredible things, including the complete transcripts of every Tim Ferriss show! Wow! I know what I'll be reading for the next week...
Have a sparkling week, lovely one!
cheers

Tip of the Week
If you're a publisher, you have two options with content. One is that you pay people to write it. The other that you get content for free. The difference? The quality, and the level of editorial oversight that you need to provide or pay for as a result.
The Sunday Five
Here are five excellent items we've dug up this week. You can add to next week's by forwarding gems you find to hello@brutalpixie.com.
[LINK] The complete Tim Ferriss Show transcripts
The day is finally here! If you've been waiting for what feels like a hundred years for transcripts of the Tim Ferriss Show, the wait is over! Tim has transcribed every one of his episodes - right back to the very first one. So much gold here, in so many ways. Get them all here.
Key takeaway: People still love to read, even when you give them audio.
[BUSINESS] 6 market research sources that fit a limited budget
Market research is a critical aspect of any part of a businss. If you're in a micro business and it feels like you can't spend much, think again! The resources available to us all are better than you think, ad much cheaper. This article runs through all of them. Learn more here.
Key takeaway: The publications of your competitors and alternatives can give you great insights into trends and activities.
[MESSAGE] Stop marketing your company's B2B solution as 'simple'
The business-to-consumer sales pitch, of a product that is so simple you'll wonder how you ever lived without it, doesn't fly in the business-to-business world. Even the simplest app requires complexity of change. Your customers will respect you more for talking about complexity - which is something we have certainly found to be true here at the Pixie. This is a short, sharp and insightful post by the Kapost team, and I highly recommend it. Read it here.
Key takeaway: Business customers want to know you respect them.
[LAW BLOGS] Law firm blog publishing practices hurting lawyers and the law
Over at LexBlog (remember them, from last week), Kevin O'Keefe argues that poor publishing practices are damaging to lawyers. It may be inadvertent, but it happens. How? Well, law blogs are routinely cited in social media, law journals, and other major publications. When law practices don't leave a lawyer's name on an article, pull them down when the lawyer leaves (etc), then that lawyer's influence dries up. The citations can't follow them. This is exactly how great publishing practices can support a business - and it's what we do for firms here at Brutal Pixie. Read it here.
Key takeaway: Your publishing practices are critical to your thought leadership.
[TOOLS] The best 13 tools for outreach
Helpful as always, the Portent team collected this overview of 13 tools that they recommend for outreach purposes. Outreach in this sense is 'reaching out to others' as part of your content marketing campaign. The reason I like it is because they have hands-on experience and write about them as users, rather than as a tech site that just compares based on what they can see. Read this super useful article here.
